Paul Casciaro, CIC, CSRM, CPIA
CEO & Chairman of the Board at The Reis Group

With over 25 years in the insurance industry, Paul brings a wealth of professional experience to The Reis Group. He started his insurance career in 1989, and holds several professional designations such as Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Certified School Risk Manager (CSRM), and Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA).

Paul currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Professional Insurance Agents Association of New York (PIA) as the First Vice President, as well as a committee member of the Glenmont National Alliance Committee (GNAC) on education for New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Paul is one of two representatives from the insurance industry chosen to the Ulster County Arson Task Force. In addition, he has worked on the Benedictine Hospital Campaign for Cancer, The HealthAlliance Annual Charity Golf Fundraiser, the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County Pro Am, and the Ulster County Vietnam Veteran’s Scholarship Fund.

Paul specializes in school districts, healthcare, municipalities, manufacturers, alternative risk funding, and workers compensation.

Louis Casciaro, CSRM, CPIA
President at The Reis Group

Louis, a graduate of Norwich University with a B.S. in Business Administration, joined the family business after he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army as a Captain in 1985. He is a current member of the Ulster County Underage Drinking Prevention Task Force, and has previously served as president of the Board of the YMCA of Ulster County and Chairman of the United Way of Ulster County. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors of the Hudson Valley Senior Residence and the Ulster County Chamber of Commerce.

At the Reis Group, Louis manages a large book of commercial accounts, as well as investigating possible mergers, acquisitions, and partnership opportunities.

Frank Casciaro, Jr., CIC
CFO & IT Manager at The Reis Group

Frank brings many years of insurance, managerial, and automation experience to The Reis Group.Entering the insurance business in 1983, he is a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), a Blue Ribbon graduate of the Aetna Home Office Insurance School, and a Certified New York State Insurance instructor for Bryant & Stratton.

Frank has been involved with automation in the insurance industry since the late 1980s and assists the agency in cutting edge technologies to improve service for clients and employees alike. Frank also serves as the public relations and PR Team Leader for the American Cancer Society’s Kingston Relay for Life.

Frank handles the financial management, as well as the information technology duties of The Reis Group.

Steven Thornton, CPCU, CIC
COO at The Reis Group

Steve is a graduate of Siena College and attended graduate school at the State University of New York at Oneonta. Entering the insurance business in 1979, Steve holds the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designations and has served as a member of Erie and Niagara Insurance Company’s Agent Advisory Committee and is a member of the Board of Directors for Callicoon Co-operative Insurance Company. He is currently an Elder and Deacon at the Saugerties Reformed Church, a member of the Sons of the American Legion, and is President and Chairman of the Board of Diaz Memorial Ambulance Service. Steve is also the former Chairman of the Saugerties Village Historic Review Board and coached youth basketball and soccer in Saugerties for many years. He has had several articles published in various trade journals and was the insurance consultant to the Town of Saugerties during the Woodstock ’94 Festival.

Steve oversees all internal operations and insurance carrier relations at The Reis Group. He also handles a number of commercial and personal accounts. With 35 years of experience, his specialties include financial institutions, habitational, and municipalities.

Scott Yerves, CIC
New Windsor Branch Manager at The Reis Group

A graduate of Marist College, Scott started in the insurance industry in 1995 He holds a New York State Broker’s license and a Life & Health license along with his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation.

He sits on the Board of Directors for the New Paltz Chamber of Commerce. Scott is also a member of the Newburgh Chapter of the Hudson Valley BNI (Business Networking International) serving on the Membership Committee and various roles in the organization along with being active in the Wallkill Area Little League since 2004.

Scott oversees the New Windsor office and works as a sales producer.

Susan Horton
Saugerties Branch Manager at The Reis Group

Entering the insurance business in 1986, Sue holds a New York State Property and Casualty License, as well as a Life & Health License, and is a lifelong resident of Saugerties, NY.

Sue has managed the Saugerties office for a number of years and also works as a sales producer for the agency.

John J. Malone, CLCS
Watervliet Branch Manager at The Reis Group

With more than 25 years in the insurance industry, John Malone offers a wealth of professional experience to The Reis Group’s clients. Throughout his career, John has represented some of the region’s largest and most highly respected employers.
On behalf of his clients, John utilizes his experience in disciplines including risk analysis and loss control to negotiate commercial insurance and risk management program terms, conditions and pricing.

John began his insurance career with Empire Blue Cross & Blue Shield in 1990. During his nearly ten years with Empire, John consulted with public and private sector employers, labor representatives and brokers on all aspects of health insurance program design, as well as product options, rating methodologies and financing.

John began work in the property & casualty insurance industry in 1999 with the Liberty Mutual Group. With Liberty Mutual, he worked as a trusted advisor to CEO, CFO, Risk Management and Senior HR professionals, consulting on all aspects of Workers’ Compensation and Property & Casualty risk. A winner of the company’s prestigious Liberty Leaders Award, John worked closely with a large and diverse client base assisting in the development of best-practice-based strategies for risk management, insurance financing / cost control, alternative funding, and safety / loss prevention. John joined forces with The Reis Group in 2016, where he continues that same work today.

John serves for the Board of Directors of the Northern Rivers Family of Services. Northern Rivers is a family of human services agencies which work together to help children, adults, and families. Formed in 2012, Northern Rivers is the parent organization to Parsons Child & Family Center (founded in 1829) and Northeast Parent & Child Society (founded in 1888). Its 1,400 employees provide services for 14,000 children, adults, and families throughout 36 counties in New York state.

John received his B.S. from The College of St. Rose in 1985. He earned the Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS) designation at the Hartford School of Insurance in 2009.
John and his wife Jill reside in Altamont, NY with their two children. Among other roles as a community volunteer, John has served as a board member at Christ the King School in Guilderland and as a youth baseball manager with Guilderland Baseball.

David LaVoie
President – Benefits Division at The Reis Group

Dave assists The Reis Group in working with large employer groups, municipalities, non-profits and associations exploring cost saving measures and coverage issues. He is fully versed on the ACA and NYS laws and regulations regarding health insurance.

Owen McKane, CIC, CRM, CSRM
President - Public Entity Division at The Reis Group

Owen brings a wealth of professional experience to The Reis Group with over 23 years in the insurance industry. Owen is the current President of The Reis Group’s Public Entity Division. Owen received his B.S. from Marist College majoring in Organizational Leadership and Communication. Owen holds several designations from The National Alliance including; Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Certified Risk Manager (CRM) and the Certified School Risk Manager (CSRM) Designation. Owen’s focus is on using risk management techniques through technology to lower the total cost of risk for his clients. Owen’s passion for risk management and the insurance business is the driving force behind his loss control initiatives. In addition to insuring public entities, Owen also works closely with manufacturers, contractors, and provides alternative risk funding solutions to his clients.
